The No. 1 Overall Pick in the NFL Draft
With the No.1 overall pick in the NFL draft
The Miami Dolphins select…
Jake Long, Offensive Tackle, University of Michigan.
Long is 6′7” 313 lbs. and ran a 5.17 40-yard dash.
This isn’t news. Miami signed Long to a long-term contract earlier this week. The contract is $57.75 million over 5 years, with $30 million guaranteed. It’s more guaranteed money than JaMarcus Russell got last year but the contract is for less money overall.
Dolphins GM Bill Parcells debated between Jake Long, Chris Long, Vernon Gholston and Glenn Dorsey. It was widely speculated that he didn’t want to pay some of those players the kind of money the first overall pick receives. Nevertheless, it’s a safe pick as Long will have a long career in the NFL whether it’s at left tackle, right tackle or guard. He’s an excellent run-blocker.
Now the week-long question will finally be answered.
Will the Rams take Chris Long or Glenn Dorsey and how will that affect the rest of the draft?
