Exhibition Opener Kicks Off Auditions

Daniel SedinIn a game that really means nothing, several Vancouver Canucks viewed it as a huge opportunity.

It was the start of a chance to prove themselves to the team’s coaching staff and showcase their skill. However, the Canucks lost 3-2 to the Anaheim Ducks at GM Place Monday night.

The tryouts truly began, but it looked as if an opponent stole the show.

Petteri Wirtanen scored two goals for Anaheim, including the overtime game winner, to help the defending champs defeat the home team. He also recorded an assist, as his linemates of George Parros and Brad May, and him combined for 3 goals and 7 points.

Nathan McIver scored the first goal for Vancouver, while Daniel Sedin tied the game in the third which sent the contest to overtime.

Neither teams dressed more then half of their regular lineup in order to allow the prospects to get more ice time. That’s how the preseason works, folks.

So it has officially begun for Vancouver, and the spotlight is on its youngsters. We’ll have to wait and see who wants it most.

The prize? Regular duties on the main team. Simple as that.
