Two Games In, 2-0 Series Leads

Heading into the weekend, four MLB teams hold a firm 2-0 series grip on their opponents, who must start mounting a major comeback in order to stay alive.

Boston L.A. MLBStarting with the American league, the Boston Red Sox have bombarded the Angels by scores of 4-0 and 6-3. Boston’s big hitters have stepped up to the plate as David Ortiz leads with three runs and a homer. Manny Ramirez has tallied three RBI’s so far, as the Red Sox is batting at an average of .254. L.A. is struggling to contain the lethal offence of the Bosox.

It looks as if TSC is right on the money so far with this series.

When it comes to the Indians and Yankees, we weren’t so fortunate with our predictions. Cleveland obliterated New York in game one by a score of 12-3, as Wang was lit up by the Tribe hitters. In game two, Cleveland managed to squeeze out a tight affair in the 11th inning as Kenny Lofton scored to end the game 2-1. When it comes to pitching, Sabathia and Carmona is doing their part in shutting down the Yankees’ hitters, most notably A-Rod. What has he done so far this series? I don’t know either.

Chris Young ArizonaIn the NL, the Diamondbacks are up on the Cubs as both teams head to Chicago for game three. The first match between these two teams resulted in a spectacular pitching dual as Chicago’s Zambrano threw for eight strikeouts, while Arizona’s Webb had nine. The Cubs’ offence needs to get going, and hopefully the home-town fans can get their batters scoring. However, the DBacks are playing their trademark game of strong defence, and they just might have too strong of a hold on the under-achieving Cubs.

In the battle of momentum, it seems as if Colorado is prevailing. Up two games to none, the Rockies return home to hopefully close out the series against the Phillies. Philadelphia has not been able to find a way to stop the Rockies’ offence, especially Holliday (2 home runs) and Matsui (5 RBIs). After Rollins and Howard, the Phillies don’t have much firepower to produce, and that just might be killing them. Not to mention the fact that the pitching needs to step up for the remaining games of this series.

There you have it. We’re halfway into the first round and the series are starting to take shape. Four teams have the opportunity for a sweep, whereas the other four teams can be part of a tremendous comeback.

Stay tuned for more TSC MLB Playoffs coverage.
